Yellow Orange · Dark Tyrian Blue

A lit window seen across the harbour at night. One warm point of colour, and behind it a blue deep enough to pass for black.

Here the work is done by value. The orange stands high and luminous while the blue lies low and almost without light, so the orange comes forward and the blue falls away. Their hues are close to opposite, and that quiet opposition is what makes the warm colour appear to glow.
