Yellow Orange · Dusky Madder Violet

A torch held up in the violet of dusk.

A vivid yellow-orange and a dark madder violet sit near opposite, the warm note bright and high, the violet deep and withdrawn. The wide fall in value makes the orange seem to flare, and the cool dark gives it somewhere to do so. A strong warm colour rarely has a better foil than a quiet violet.
