Sanzo Wada

Sanzo Wada (1883–1967) was a painter, teacher, and designer who worked in kimono, theater, and film. He won an Oscar for the costumes of Gate of Hell. His color charts showed colors in pairs, never alone. Each color sits next to the ones it was meant to go with.

What's here

The set has 586 colors and 581 combinations from both volumes: 348 from the first, 233 from the second. Each color has its values, the combinations it appears in, and a short note on its character. Each combination has a note on how its colors work together.

Getting around

Browse the combinations or the colors. Sort or filter either set however you like. Search by color name or hex, or open the swatch picker to find the closest colors to any shade you pick. From a combination page you can also send its colors off to find photos that match.
